SCHOLARSHIPS

Waterford Youth Assistance offers scholarships to Waterford youth for summer day camps offered by local community providers. Waterford school-age children, who meet the eligibility requirements, are eligible for one (1) WYA Day Camp Scholarship per program year (July 1 – June 30) up to a maximum award of $200. Families would be responsible for a small $25 co-share fee which would be identified in your scholarship award. All scholarship awards are determined by the WYA Scholarship Committee and are subject to fund availability at the time of application.

Scholarship Eligibility

To be considered for the WYA Day Camp Scholarship, the following criteria must be met: ​​​

• The child is a resident of the Waterford School District
• The child must be school-age between ages 4-18 years old
• The child’s household income falls within USDA/Section 8 guidelines

Financial Verification

​​WYA day camp scholarships are designed to assist low-income families. To assist us in determining if you fall within federal income eligibility guidelines, you will need to provide financial information and documentation with your Day Camp Scholarship Application. To help you properly prepare your application, we have listed our financial verification requirements below: 

• List your annual household income
• Number of family members in household
• Please attach ONE of the following as proof of income: W-2 (last years federal income tax return) or disability or social security statement

WYA Youth Enrichment scholarships are reviewed and approved once per month (generally, the 2nd Thursday of the month) by WYA YE Scholarship Committee.

Individual consideration is on a case-by-case basis. The eligibility of scholarship awards is at the discretion of the YE Scholarship Committee.

** PLEASE NOTE: Food stamp, Medicaid, or Bridge Cards cannot be used for low-income financial verification ** 

Application Process

​​To be considered for the WYA Day Camp Scholarship, the following criteria must be met: ​

• Student picks a camp of choice from community camp providers (Waterford Parks and Recreation, Waterford School District, Oakland Yard Athletics, YMCA, or Salvation Army). All other programs will be classified as an activity and are not eligible for camp scholarship funds.
• Parent/guardian completes a WYA Scholarship Application and submits it to WYA for approval along with financial eligibility documentation (identified above), and a camp course description.
• Upon committee approval, you will receive a scholarship award letter indicating awarded funds.
• The parent/guardian registers the child in the approved camp along with paying any cost not covered by the WYA scholarship. WYA will submit approved scholarship funds directly to the activity provider upon confirmation of the student has completed the camp activity.

How to Apply for a Day Camp Scholarship

​WYA’s Scholarship Committee will process applications as quickly as possible according to the funds we have available at the time of  application.  Please complete a separate scholarship application for EACH child that you are requesting a day camp scholarship.

There are two ways to apply for a day camp scholarship:

1.)  Electronic application via Google Forms (you may complete from your mobile phone or desktop computer)
2.)  Printable written application

Applications will not be considered fully complete until we receive financial eligibility verification and camp information. We accept written applications and all support documentation via three methods:  U.S. mail, email, or fax.

Print and complete the application. Send your application, and support documentation to ​WYA via email, fax, or U.S. mail. If you have additional questions regarding the status of your application, feel free to contact our office.

Youth Enrichment Scholarship Application

The goal of Youth Enrichment is to provide youngsters with an opportunity to participate in academic, athletic and cultural skill building activities that their families might not otherwise be able to afford. These skill building scholarships are aimed at expanding a child’s horizons, increasing a child’s skills, building self confidence and enhancing self esteem. Students are eligible for three scholarships in a lifetime.
