Our story is rooted in service, shaped by people, driven by a vision for a stronger, more connected future.
As a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, Waterford Youth Assistance (WYA) has been serving the community of Waterford, MI since 1962. Professional programs and services are performed under the guidance of Oakland County Youth Assistance professional staff who also work side-by-side with volunteers who assist with mentoring and family education programs.
We provide support and guidance to children and families through casework, referral, and mentoring services. We also support the development of healthy Waterford families by offering family education classes, workshops, and youth enrichment and camp scholarships for families who may need financial assistance.
All programs and services are offered free of charge to families who reside within the Waterford School district boundaries. This is made possible through the generosity of local community sponsors and our Tri-Sponsorship with Waterford Township, Waterford School District, and the Oakland County Circuit Court – Family Division.

Who can access WYA services?
Services are free to families residing within the Waterford School District boundaries. Participation is voluntary and confidential, with parental permission required for minors.
What services does WYA offer?
- Casework & Counseling: Short-term counseling for youth and families facing adjustment issues, behavioral concerns, or referrals from schools, police, or prosecutors.
- Family Education: Workshops on parenting skills, substance abuse, anger management, and youth topics.
- Mentoring: One-on-one mentoring through “Mentors Plus” and “Bucket of Love” programs.
- Youth Enrichment & Camp Scholarships: Financial aid for tutoring, sports, and summer camps.
- Youth Recognition: Honors for volunteerism, heroism, or achievement.
- Shoplifting Prevention: Educational presentations for 5th graders.
How do I get involved?
WYA welcomes volunteers, sponsors, and donors. Opportunities include mentoring, fundraising, program support, and community outreach.
How do I refer a child for services?
You can refer a child via the Client Referral Services. Referrals may come from parents, schools, police, or the Oakland County Prosecutors Office.
Is there a cost for services?
No. All WYA programs are free for eligible families, funded by community sponsors and the Tri-Sponsorship with Waterford Township, Waterford School District, and Oakland County Circuit Court – Family Division.
